Statement by the Lebanese Coalition for Sovereignty and Transitional JusticeJuly 31, 2025

*We called for transitional justice — they responded with selectivity.*
But selective justice neither delivers accountability nor builds a nation.

Lebanon is currently witnessing a troubling pattern of selectively reopening certain security and political case files while deliberately overlooking others. Such partial and fragmented approaches pose a serious threat to the pursuit of genuine justice, revealing underlying intentions rooted in political score-settling rather than public interest.

The state’s decision to revisit some files while ignoring others undermines the foundations of accountability. We, the Lebanese Coalition for Sovereignty and Transitional Justice, demand that all files be reopened comprehensively — beginning with the events that unfolded in Tripoli, a city that has disproportionately borne the burden on behalf of all Lebanese.

Tripoli is neither a testing ground nor a political mailbox. We will not accept that the tragedies it endured be reduced to bargaining chips or tools for political retribution.

We affirm the following:

• National unity among all Lebanese has become an urgent necessity. There is no path forward without a shared word and collective purpose, free from sectarian or political incitement.

• State institutions must demonstrate their national credibility through full transparency and inescapable accountability. There can be no resurrection of the nation unless the era of impunity is brought to a definitive end.

• Reinvestigating the events in Tripoli must include thorough accountability for heads of security agencies, members of parliament, former prime ministers, and all individuals who were complicit, negligent, or involved in covering up or perpetuating the city’s years of manufactured conflict.

• A comprehensive and non-selective approach to reopening these files is a national imperative to safeguard coexistence and the rights of minorities in Tripoli. It is also essential for identifying and holding accountable those who endangered and exploited these communities for battles not of their choosing.

Tripoli embraces all its people.
And today, despite its wounds, it stands tall to declare:
*Take your hands off our city, and our lives.*
Justice is not a luxury — it is a right that does not expire.
